Ancient Mother, I hear you calling.
Ancient Mother, I hear your song.
Ancient Mother, I hear your laughter.
Ancient Mother, I taste your tears.
Traditional
With the recent ingress of Venus into the mothering sign of Cancer, it makes perfect sense that the quintessential Mothering card of the Tarot would make one of her relatively rare visits. This week, let us honor the return of The Empress.
The Empress beckons us with all her voluptuous beauty; she is abundant, lush, and fertile, and in some decks, she is very pregnant. She offers the pleasures, security, and love of the Great Mother. This is Nature in all her glory. As the late, beloved Tarot legend, Rachel Pollack, so beautifully describes, she is not merely the forms of Nature but the underlying principle of Life itself.
Beside her stands the great shield of Venus, for she is passionate Aphrodite. At her feet is a field of grain, for she is the Goddess who rules agriculture: Ceres, Demeter, Corn Mother, and the Grain Goddess. She feeds and nurtures us, body and soul.
She is connected to her predecessor in the Tarot, the High Priestess, by the pomegranates on her gown.
The Empress’ crown is a circlet of six-pointed stars, each representing the twelve signs of the zodiac, indicating her sovereignty over the circle of Time.
The hexagram symbol of her crown’s stars is familiar to many as the Star of David and is also recognized as the ancient Seal of Solomon. It is also the intertwining of two triangles, combining the magical, alchemical symbols for masculine Fire and feminine Water. It represents love made manifest, the quickening of life and creation.
Good Loving from the Heavens
Considering this important Major Arcana’s visit, it’s not surprising that there is a lot of synchronistic astrology occurring.
For starters, astrologer Annie Heese explains:
Venus is in Cancer from May 18-June 13. In Cancer, Venus is nurturing, protective and self-protective, cautious, and fertile. We experience many emotional ups and downs in love under this influence due to our increased sensitivity and impressionability. We are tender, romantic, and attached. We could be clingy or sulky during this period.
Cancer love is dedicated, warm, and devoted. We show our love through our devotion, care, and concern. We are affectionate and cuddly, and are at our best when we feel safe and secure. We also want to make our loved ones feel safe and comfortable. It’s a good cycle for collecting, and money related to real estate, accommodation, food, coins, silver, or antiques. We enjoy homey, familiar pastimes and art and simple pleasures.
Cautious with our feelings, we are not always confident about boldly trying or sharing new things during this cycle. However, we do whatever we can to make our loved ones feel special. Our memories are long, and we can be very sentimental.
Our favorite astrologer for the real world, Elisabeth Grace, agrees and adds that:
Venus — which refers to social expression, aesthetics, money and women — reconnects with Jupiter, the cosmic sugar daddy, at 5:47PM ET on Tuesday. Look up in the sky tonight and you’ll see what you may have missed on June 25th when these two brights lights first met up this year. Venus together with Jupiter suggests abundance and enjoyment.
Furthermore, Mercury has moved into the nurturing sign of the crab as of today (June 1). It remains in Cancer until mid-August. That’s an unusually long time, thanks to a retrograde that’s coming at the end of this month. Elisabeth tells us to expect lots of news and discussions that focus on home, security, and birthing.
However, caution is called for. As I mentioned, the Goddess of Agriculture and grain, Ceres, is also involved with The Empress.
Elisabeth points out that the dwarf planet Ceres has just entered Gemini and will meet up with Uranus this week, bringing a disruptive pattern, for better or worse. With its influence growing as we approach the Summer Solstice in three weeks, the food supply is “likely to be much on our minds,” she says.
How could it not be? You and I are painfully aware that food prices are climbing at an alarming rate. But the toxic fog being pumped out by the regime is obscuring the fact that global hunger and widespread economic depression (not recession) are looking more likely the longer the illegal, crackpot war with Iran continues. The unhinged games with international tariffs are not helping.
This visit from The Empress, representing She who feeds the world and who nurtures all life, is an important affirmation. But please pay attention to where your food comes from. Shortages may be coming if a dramatic reversal is not made soon.
Still, though, The Empress is not conservative, but magnificent in her benevolence. She stands for sustainability and generosity. Her counsel for times of difficulty would be to form alliances with your community, develop cooperative sharing and agreements with your neighbors, and buy local.
Now, while Venus is dancing with bountiful, enthusiastic Jupiter, stock up. Share. Develop strategies for improving your security and well-being.
One World, One Family
Re-prioritizing our needs and our material comforts is at a critical juncture. Now is the time to discover and honor what rich abundance really means to us.
The Empress reminds us that all of us are her beloved children—every race, every nation, every gender, and every species, not just humans.
A visit from her often indicates a pregnancy and the importance of children in our lives. These children may be human or animal companions, or they may be our creative expressions, projects, or ideas. This is a time for nurturing, nesting, and building a secure, wholesome environment for you and your loved ones.
This is a beautiful opportunity to embrace the irresistible force of creativity in all its deliciousness!
Beauty, sensuousness, and earthly pleasures are the focus this week, and there is also an emphasis on making good choices for a healthier life.
The Empress, as the Great Mother, offers unconditional love to all her children. She is the source of all abundance, beauty, health, and life. She teaches us that our wealth is our diversity and that love is the law.
It is no coincidence that humanity’s old, sad history of war, conquest, and lack is intertwined with 5,000 years of misogyny and male entitlement. But those stories are not the reality of how Nature works. They are myths perpetuated by skewed systems of greed and imbalance.
When we live in harmony with the loving guidance of The Empress, such fabrications are dispelled. And the planet Herself can breathe easier.
This week, how can you discover new ways to embrace the beauty and splendor of the world around you? What preparations are needed to expand your sense of personal, soulful well-being? Now is the time; The Empress blesses your creativity with abundance and wholesome possibilities.
Receive what is given with gratitude; share what you have with generosity and joy. We have and are so much more than we have been led to believe.
Indeed, we are rich beyond imagining.
