Wordsmithing Magic from the Crossroads

My Tarot Book: Guardians, Guides, and Allies

Graphic of book with title

Most Tarot books teach meanings. This book offers readers more than meanings.

GUARDIANS, GUIDES, AND ALLIES is a distinctive Tarot reference grounded in five decades of practice and more than twenty years of teaching. It encourages both beginners and seasoned practitioners to move beyond rote interpretations toward a natural and enduring partnership with the cards.

Rather than treating the Tarot as a system of keywords and definitions to be mastered, the book introduces a fresh way of meeting and working with this team of magical companions and guides.

The cards become vivid presences that instruct, inspire, challenge, and accompany the reader.

About My Book and About Me

People sometimes ask what prepared me to write a book like Guardians, Guides, and Allies. The short answer is that I’ve spent a lifetime living with and learning from the Tarot and more than two decades helping others do the same.

More specifically —

  • I have been reading and studying the Tarot since 1972.
  • I have taught Tarot for more than twenty years, helping nearly one thousand students discover their own unique relationship with the cards, including through NC State University’s continuing education program.
  • I’ve written my weekly Tarot Card of the Week every Monday for more than twenty-three years.
  • I founded and continue to facilitate one of the country’s longest-running Tarot discussion and study groups.
  • I have presented workshops and lectures at regional and national conferences, retreats, festivals, and community events.
  • For nearly 20 years before becoming a full-time Tarot reader and teacher, my corporate career centered on authoring and teaching courses on leadership, technology, and management skills. I specialized in instructional technology and workplace learning, honing my understanding of how adults retain, integrate, and confidently apply complex information, especially to problem-solve and innovate.

And through my newsletter, Wings, and via social media, I continue to serve a dedicated community of more than 2,000 readers and followers. Many of them have been asking me to write this for years.

An Update for My Friends and Visitors

Writing my book in my reading room

I know some of y’all have been wondering, so here’s the thing…

I’ve been in semi-hibernation because now that the manuscript is complete, my current focus is polishing the proposal for submission to publishers who are the best fit for its vision.

Send me some good magic! It’s very, very much time for my baby to find her way into the world.

🌟UPDATE August 8, 2026 (The Lion’s Gate peak, plus an Eight Day!): As mentioned in my July update, I have been working on a proposal for a second very prestigious publisher. I am delighted to tell you that I sent it off on the wings of this magical date.

Whereas the first publisher (from July) notes that it can take up to eight weeks before one can know if the proposal is being considered or not, this one on Aug. 8 cautions that its expected turnaround is four months! So I am going to take a brief break (I have been working very, very long days on this proposal and also gotten way behind on some routine things) before I tackle the third one I have in mind.

✨  Your continued good vibes mean the world to me. The more I have had to distill it into proposal form, the more I know it wants to be in your collection! ✨

The Backstory

Once upon a time…

When I started my blog in 2003, I wanted to initiate conversations on a wide-ranging platform of magical topics. But I also knew that I would focus on my true love, the Tarot.

So I began pulling one card every Monday morning and then writing about it for whoever happened across my site. No other layout cards, just a single pull.

Thus, my Card of the Week began. I’ve now written more than 2,000 of these weekly analyses, which also include astrological influences and discussions of current events.

But over the years, my clients, students, site visitors, colleagues, and friends asked, nudged, urged, and finally prevailed upon me to consolidate all my posts into an organized reference book, minus the topical bits—just the straight Tarot discussions.

Because, they keep telling me, no one else talks about the Tarot like I do. It took many more years and many hundreds of students to begin to understand what they meant.

I believe I finally do, and that realization lies at the very heart of my book.

So please stay tuned for news and updates along the way! And thank you for all the ways you continue to support this journey. I can’t wait to get my book into your hands.

Those that don’t got it,
can’t show it.
Those that got it,
can’t hide it.
