Inspiring Enchantment & Illumination with Tarot & Intuitive Guidance

Happy International Tarot Day!

Once upon a time, in 2003, a beautiful reader and teacher named Den Elder initiated a worldwide Tarot Day. The next May (for she had chosen her birthday for the celebration), I heard about it and joined the party. And I have, more or less, celebrated setting aside one day a year for the commemoration of All Things Tarot ever since.

But a number of years later, she passed her idea (and all legal rights) over to a large, Very Serious Tarot enterprise, and over time, for me at least, it lost a lot of its sparkle.

Although my interest faded, I still felt like Tarot needed its own day of merriment and celebration. Maybe even more than ever.

And what day could be more ideal than All Fool’s Day?

Fooling Around with Something New

So as a bit of humor, I began a counter-frolic, and called it Interplanetary Tarot Day. And the Page of Lightsabers last year was one result.

But nowadays, it feels like Tarot needs a more sincere celebration than just a joke, in the same way that the light-hearted Fool card is not merely in jest. Especially in this new decade that finds us in a world that is forever changed from just a year ago.

Thus, I have tweaked the name and the intention in order to be more authentic and welcoming.

So .. drum roll, please ..

Fun! Prizes!

To get us off to a happy start, I am offering a few activities and prizes, too!

Post a comment HERE on my blog (not Facebook!), in the Leave a Comment box, and I will choose:

ONE lucky winner to receive a free half-hour phone reading with me. Includes a recording of our session and photo of the spread.

TWO lucky winners to receive a free, year-long Birthday Club membership (my Birthday Club is on hiatus, so this is the ONLY way to join). Includes your own personal Soul Card kit, a complete profile of your own birth cards, and then, starting on your birthday, you’ll get an overview of your coming Tarot year, as well as begin receiving a monthly packet of celebratory goodies to help you attune to a different Major Arcana card of the month.

THREE lucky winners to receive a free Soul Card kit. Includes magical botanicals and herbs, many of which have been grown by me, and all of which are sustainably, organically grown; a crystal or stone that is in harmony with your Soul Card; a brief overview of that card’s attributes; and a blessed candle for your meditations.

Please note: If you have a preference for which prize you want, please say so in your comments. Or let me know if you want a chance at any of the three.

This is not a race! To give everyone in every time zone a fair crack at this, the contest closes at 6am, tomorrow (April 2), Eastern time. I will announce the randomly selected winners around noon, Eastern US time.

I will need your preferred full name, and your email address.

☛ You can safely use the form to give me your name and email as they really are.

But if you also include your email WITHIN THE COMMENT BOX ITSELF, please use this format, in order to prevent weird, spammy bot harvesting (or whatever):

YourPreferredEmailName  and then write out the words, “the at symbol” and then YourEmailServer and then write out “dot com” or “dot edu” or whatever it is.
So, for instance, if I was entering, I would type my comment and then add:

bethowlsdaughter (the at symbol) owlsdaughter (dot com).

Again — it’s okay to use your REAL email address in the form.  In fact, you must, for it to work.

The idea is to protect your privacy and safety, so that your email address will not be clickable by anything or anybody. And yet it should still be coherent enough for me to contact you.

I hope this makes sense.

But Wait! There’s Even More Fun and Geekery!

Please visit my Tarot business page and post photos of your favorite decks, or cards, or even spreads. Bonus points for Tarot-related selfies!

No prizes here, other than our undying likes, especially because not everyone is on Facebook.

This is for the pure fun of sharing and discussing our love for the Tarot. So pop over to my page, and let’s party!

A Special Note to My Tarot Reader Friends

I hope you, most especially, will join me in the launch of this new celebration.

Please DO share and support this day that is strictly for the pleasure and passion of our cards. If you care to offer gifts and other goodies for your clients, students, colleagues, and fans, I really hope you will! Let this be a perfect opportunity to do so.

But please: my intention for this day is gratitude and mirth, not marketing or money. In the spirit of The Fool, let us keep this a no-strings, non-commercial, purely charitable observance.

Cool? Thanks!

Let’s Do This, Y’all!

Please share far and wide with your friends, and let’s make the ’20s the Decade of Tarot together.

Starting today!

First, thank you for your emails, beautiful blog and postings.

Tarot cards began for me in the 1970’s. There is an instance I remember clearly. My teenage niece and her boyfriend were obviously loved each other. I was visiting my sister. I had my tarot cards out. My niece asked me to do a reading. Her mother and sisters were not home so I was comfortable sharing what I saw. The pull indicated she was pregnant. She vehemently denied it and being intimate with Eddie. A couple months later my sister called with the news that April was pregnant. I was not surprised. April and Eddie married. The child is a lovely woman now. April and Eddie are the sweetest couple I have ever seen.

In the course of life I forgot about tarot cards. Now, within the past fifteen years cards are an active part of my life. I enjoy the multitude of shades of the cards depending on location in a pull , question and astrological connection. I love different decks of cards and use what calls.

Thank you for this April Fools Day surprise. My namesake aunt was born on April 1.

Hi Beth, thank you for all your wonderful insights and guidance over the years. I’ve been studying tarot for 25 years now & have taken many of your classes, some more than once. Tarot began for me when I saw Clive Barrett’s The Ancient Egyptian Tarot while browsing at a bookstore. The deck was open & the cards displayed. I’d never seen anything like them. The artwork was so beautiful. I was totally drawn into them & bought them there & then. This despite a fundamentalist religious background that said tarot was evil. I decided anything that beautiful & with which I had such an immediate affinity couldn’t be evil. They opened up a whole new world for me, not just with tarot alone, but a whole new philosophy of life. Over the years I’ve collected many tarot decks. In addition to The Ancient Egyptian Tarot deck, which I still use, my favorite is Ellen Dugan’s Witches Tarot. My chosen at random tarot card that I’m working with for the year is Temperance. I’m having some significant break throughs about myself as a result. I would love the reading with you, but would be happy with any of the prizes. Thanks for doing this.

This is a nice surprise. I was feeling a little “fun” lonesome this year as it seems April Fools was mostly canceled (quite understandably, of course). It my birthday month, and the Fool is my personality card, so this is just right.

I’m open to any of the prizes or none at all. Just sort of glad to participate. I hope the day is finding you well, Beth, and do stay as safe as possible during these fraught times. <3 Cheers.

  • April 1, 2020, 7:20 pm Danya D. Smith

On this day of the Fool, I think it is a powerful symbol for the moment. The word fool, from the Latin follis literally means “bag of wind” or that which contains air/breath. The ability to take in air is one of the few necessities that supports our lives, and at this time when so many are stricken with COVID-19, a disease that robs one of the ability to breathe deeply, today is another day to be grateful we can access this vital function. Whenever we feel helpless, anxious or overwhelmed, we can return to center via mindful attention to breath. May we breathe deeply, slowly and fully on this International Tarot Day, with gratitude for the lives we lead, and with compassion for those currently in the fight of their lives.

    All shall be well,
    and all shall be well,
and all manner of thing shall be well.

    Happy International Tarot Day.

  • April 1, 2020, 7:38 pm Beth

I love having International Tarot Day on April 1st. What a joy to read your declaration and giveaways. I’ve been in a tarot rut for years, but they burst forth again in the last 2 days!! Just in time for ITD! They’ve come back in dreams, and new ideas, and fresh energy. Amazing. I had a shamanic experience with Johanna Powell Colbert’s Temperance card while I was leading a journey circle last night. It’s like a rebirth, all new again. Thanks for your newsletters and all your beautiful energy and wisdom. Beth oH and if I win the draw I would LOVE a reading, but would also love any gift from you.
