You can’t just sit there and wait for people to give you that golden dream. You’ve got to get out there and make it happen for yourself.
Diana Ross, Sun and Mercury in Aries
Some of my faithful, longtime readers may remember when I used to note the zodiac birthdays each month. I thought that, today being the beginning of the new astrological year, I would reinstate that celebratory practice, because birthdays are so precious to us. Even if we have mixed feelings about getting older, as the saying goes, “It beats the alternative.”
This afternoon at 5:58 Eastern time, the Sun leaves the sign of Pisces and moves into Aries, marking the Equinox (Vernal above the equator, and Autumnal below).
The sign of Aries is ruled by Mars and is the first one to get things started, initiating projects and leading others. A cardinal sign, Aries the Ram governs leadership and initiative.
Cardinal signs are the dynamic innovators and leaders of zodiac because they are connected to the start of the new seasons (and therefore, the sabbats), thanks to their timing in conjunction with the Equinoxes and Solstices. Aries is the Equinox Fire sign; Cancer is the Solstice Water sign; Libra is the other Equinox sign, but ruled by Air; and Capricorn is the Solstice Earth sign.
No wonder, then, that the Ram is adventurous, ambitious, impulsive, enthusiastic, and full of energy. People born when the Sun is in Aries are pioneers both in thought and action, and are very open to new ideas. Aries loves freedom and absolutely hates feeling controlled.
Ram people often love to walk on the wild side, and even the most mild-mannered ones are likely to have at least one area of their lives where they enjoy picking fights, playing devil’s advocate, or breaking the rules. They also need to be careful not to be seduced by the myth of their own importance and superiority.
They also welcome challenges and drama. So be forewarned — if they don’t have enough, they will create some!
Aries people will not be diverted from their purpose except by their own impatience, which can surface if they don’t get quick results, or exactly what they want.
How the Sun in Aries Affects Everyone
(March 20 – April 20, 2019)
As the first sign in the zodiac, this marks the beginning of the Astrological New Year. Following the traditional Solar and Lunar New Years’ observances, and the dedication rites associated with Imbolc, this gives us one last holiday in which to set our long-term intentions for a fresh start to the year.
Because it coincides with the beginning of the Astrological Year, and the first day of Spring, in 1993, this day was declared to be International Astrology Day by the Association for Astrological Networking (AFAN). Why not celebrate by making an appointment with your favorite astrologer and see what your chart looks like for the new year?
As to how we are all affected when the Sun is in Aries, astrologer Annie Heese notes:
In Aries, the Sun is enthusiastic and spontaneous. We are motivated by the desire to conquer. We are more impulsive and we want to initiate. Aries is a sign that bounces back quickly–there is little shame with Aries. There are few, if any, apologies!
Aries is brave and pioneering, and somewhat innocent. We are direct and rather uncomplicated in our needs, but we can also be short-sighted and lack the desire to plan ahead.
Beware, too, that there is a lot of fog and potential for misunderstanding floating around, especially with this Mercury retrograde continuing in the highly emotional sign of Pisces. With Aries’ push, we may have a tendency to turn impatient, cranky, argumentative, whiny, or even belligerent.
That said, though, the juicy possibilities of the Sun’s ingress into Aries means this is the wake-up call of the zodiac. What needs awakening for you? What important, life-affirming issues might be satisfied, if you would only ask in a direct, maybe even blunt fashion?
In the time of Aries, we are all urged to light the fires of action and passion. Life is vibrant now with possibilities. This is your invitation to banish your baggage of the past, especially during these last days of the Mercury retrograde. It’s the ideal time for reviewing, reflecting, and revising as you prepare to hitch your star to the brilliant power of the Sun in Aries.
During this time, we are surrounded by the energy of the warrior, the pioneer, the entrepreneur, and the trailblazer. Got a dream? Well, get going! Get energized! Be creative, dynamic, and a little wild!
Whatever your Sun sign may be, Aries dares you to put the brilliance of your own life into action!
