Tarot Card of the Week, Feb. 18-24, 2019: Ace of Pentacles

Abundance is about being rich, with or without money.
Suze Orman

This week of the Virgo Full Moon and the Sun’s ingress into Pisces, the last sign of the astrological year, we are blessed with a visit from the hand of Mystery, holding the Ace of Pentacles.

As with all Aces of the Tarot, this card holds the full potential of its suit. Each Ace shows the hand of the Divine emerging from a cloud and offering a gift.

And, as discussed last week, Pentacles are concerned with the matters of the physical, manifest world. Thus, they offer insights into our material well-being, such as our health, work, home, and financial security.

The Disc or Pentacle may represent a sacred shield, a coin, or even a scrying mirror of destiny. Its power is to manifest into physical reality that which your imagination (Air), desire (Fire), or heart (Water) long for.

The Garden

The Ace of Pentacles is being offered from within a garden that features the rose and lily motif so frequently seen in the Tarot. The foreground is filled with the white lilies that indicate purity and spirituality. The arbor in the background is rose covered, making it a gateway of passion that leads to involvement in the larger world beyond.

Gardens are those numinous places where the will of Nature and humanity work in harmony, resulting in food, medicine, and beauty.

It is also the place from which, according to many of the major religions, we have been exiled, as a Divine punishment.

That core belief has led to millennia of human suffering, centered on shame, scarcity, and fear. Our entire Western culture is rooted in the belief that we must fight to survive and that we are separated from one another and from our Maker.

Who, we might ask, really banished us? Might it be possible that rejection was never true? Could it be that we have been welcome at the lavish, infinite banquet of the Beloved all along? More than welcome, what if we never left, and have been there all the time?

So whose hand is it, we might ask, that is holding the disk?

Charles Eisenstein, author of Sacred Economics: Money, Gift, And Society In The Age Of Transition and The More Beautiful World Our Hearts Know is Possible, writes:

Each of us has a unique and necessary gift to the world. The purpose of life is to express our gifts. We are all here to contribute our gifts toward something greater than ourselves, and will never be content unless we are…

When we live in the spirit of the gift, magic happens. Gift mentality is a kind of faith, a kind of surrender—and that is a prerequisite for miracles to arise. From the Gift, we become capable of the impossible.

Perhaps the hand is our own. Perhaps it is the hand of Providence.

Maybe there is actually no difference between the two.

Money Follows Money

The Ace of Pentacles promises new and hopeful possibilities for our personal prosperity, health, security, and groundedness.

It has unfailingly been the case in my life that when I am most worried about my money, charitable giving and loving sharing bring me back into emotional balance. Such acts always seem to have a powerful effect of opening up access to unexpected assets.

So for the many, many people who are struggling in this time of uncertainty, there is tremendous hope in this card. Rather than a stingy, fear-focused response to economic troubles, the better, more long-term solution is almost certainly to adopt a policy of support and generosity.

I would add that seeing this card today, in the light of mounting pressure on CRWH*, who is surely attempting to deflect closer scrutiny by declaring his fake emergency, I very distinctly received an admonition: “Follow the money.”

I am sure that Robert Mueller and everyone else in the 17 or so different investigations is doing this. But in this practice of what I am calling mundane Tarot, I got it loud and clear, to pass along to you. And if you happen to know anyone in the investigating teams, feel free to share!

New monetary surprises are on the horizon.

The Gift That Keeps on Giving

This Ace is a bit conservative, and it does not give you a green light for wild risk-taking, overspending, or flights of fantasy. But if your activities are sensible and steady, very good things are likely.

Build a strong foundation and let Tuesday’s Virgo Full Moon (with the Sun having just moved into Pisces) help you. Our faithful astrologer friend Annie Heese writes:

With the Virgo-Pisces service axis involved, this Full Moon presses us to find a balance between day-to-day functions and routines, physical health, and the need for order (Virgo) and vision, spiritual health, disorder, and the infinite (Pisces).

Virgo rules the tools and techniques that we use to deal with day-to-day life, while Pisces rules the tools that we use to deal with our spiritual selves.

With the special timing of this Full Moon (including Chiron moving into Aries), there is a potential for a new start, one that has, in its very structure, the elements for a successful outcome. Could there be a promotion, new job, or inheritance coming for you?

Is it time to begin a new, happier relationship with money? Are you considering buying a new home, or upgrading your current dwelling? Be on the lookout for a new opportunity or gift that brings you pleasure.

Although Winter is certainly not finished with us yet, this Ace suggests we might get started on our Spring cleaning (Virgo would love to help with that!). Similarly, we may well want to shed pounds, clutter, and distractions, resulting in a more focused, successful growing season.

This is a time to re-discover the wonders of your physical body. Perhaps you might get a massage, begin a new workout regimen, or learn to prepare new kinds of nurturing foods. This is also an invitation for exploring new sensual delights. How might you use this opportunity to improve your sense of comfort and security?

Ground yourself in work that you love, in the body that brings you life, and align yourself with the beautiful gifts of Earth Herself. Remind yourself that money is not the same as abundance, and can even sabotage our natural inclinations to be generous.

This week, know that, by the hand of Grace, you are rich, whether you have money or not.

i have found repeatedly, that as you say, being generous when i feel that my finances are tight always brings an assist! practical magic, indeed. and definitely, true abundance exists independent of money. so much depends on one’s state of mind and appreciation for all that is.
