Welcome 2017: The Tarot Year of the Wheel of Fortune, Part One

Turn and face the strange…
David Bowie

Instead of our usual Card of the Week, today, I am offering Part One of a two-part series on the profoundly important Tarot Card of the Year.

As you may know from my many articles and classes on the topic, or if you have been in my Birthday Club, the numerology of your birthday, or of a particular year, can correspond to the Tarot, specifically the Major Arcana. Using this system, we can learn about some general traits and patterns that can be anticipated in a given year.

This year, 2017, is 2+0+1+7, which equals 10. Based on the system first devised by Angeles Arrien and then established for most Tarotists by Mary K. Greer, we do not reduce further, since there is a 10 in the Major Arcana.

Therefore, for most of us, this is NOT a 1 year (there hasn’t been a Magician Year since the year 998 C.E. and there will not be one again until Dec. 31, 9.957 C.E.). Instead, this is the year of the 10 – Wheel of Fortune.

But, as Mary points out, the Majors have numerological relationships, and their meanings are “constellated.” So yes, the 10 of the Majors is related numerologically to the 1, and also to the 19.

And because of the complementary relationship of the Tarot constellations, The Magician and The Sun may also have a role to play.

This is why I created a special reading that will include the influence of this coming year’s Wheel of Fortune constellation cards. With it, we get a much clearer sense, I think, of exactly what this particular Wheel year may hold in store. I will post the rather intense and resonant results first thing tomorrow.

First, let’s talk about what a Wheel of Fortune year means, in general.

The first thing we may notice this year is that it will bring a major shift from last year, which was more inner-directed, when a feeling of introspection, soul-searching, and even isolation prevailed. Now, the global energy changes radically, and events are very likely to be dramatic.

This may be a time of surprises, when old patterns, friends and even enemies not seen in a long time may pop up. There may be a wave of nostalgia for the “good old days,” yet there will be an equal push for growth and change towards the future.

In fact, the hallmark of a Wheel of Fortune year is that it is a major turning point. Many who have been working, praying, meditating, and activating the transitioning of our planet from the Piscean to the Aquarian Age may find that this is the year of make it or break it.

Everything that may have been hidden is now much more visible, but changing fast. What’s up takes a fall downward. Other forces are suddenly on the ascendant.

As we have seen in the sharp turn to the right in Europe, and the difficult American elections in November, the end of the old paradigm is clearly not willing to pass quietly.

So buckle your seat belts, folks. This Ferris Wheel of Fortune may spin faster and less smoothly than we would like, with even the occasional rude reversal. Cultivate centeredness if you’d rather avoid whiplash.

One of the most obvious and dramatic events that will have us “up in the air” this year is the fallout from the American presidential election. In fact, the last time we had a Wheel of Fortune year was in 2008, when the economy crashed and Barack Obama was elected.

Whether you are a citizen of the U.S. or not, you know that the new U.S. presidency will be affecting your fate in many ways for years to come.

For Americans, the wheel of destiny now spins, and we will recognize that there are forces at work that are out of our hands. Beware of those who would try to cheat at the game, for, if ignored, they can bring calamity upon us all.

The only constant is change, and the winds of fortune are likely to be fickle in this year. Yet, in this flux, opportunities will open that we may not see again for a very long time.

Be prepared to act quickly while fortune smiles, although it may entail a big gamble and upheaval.

How Might This Year Affect You Personally?

This is a powerful year for relocating, changing jobs, or making other life-altering choices. And it is a particularly favorable time for educational pursuits, publishing and other kinds of communication, as well as initiating new projects.

There may be a sense of Fate taking a hand, and a sense of gravity, even destiny, regarding many of your endeavors.

Now is the time to set goals, make a plan to fulfill your most important Life Dreams, and other long-range arrangements, visualizing the big picture before becoming caught up in the day-to-day details.

This is a year when you will be able to trust luck, with fortune smiling — IF — you honor the life lessons you have learned so far and are true to your highest nature.

There are some golden opportunities coming, although they may need a lot of energy. If things get too hectic, be sure to take care of yourself, setting aside ample time to find and reconnect with your quiet center.

Ultimately, the Wheel of Fortune demands that we set aside pettiness of all sorts, and see things in a more universal manner. The fate of the world may well depend upon our clarity, our good will, and our participation. As long we are committed to integrity and honesty, and, most of all, to act for the highest good of all, luck may be with us.

Please stop back by tomorrow for my very special Wheel of Fortune Year Reading.

I read these reversed – Part Two, then Part One. And I am in awe. This is what I have been “seeing” since the election. . . and on both a personal and social level. I shared with a dear friend on my birthday that I see a year of change for me, and am unsure as to what area but that it will not be insignificant. Thank You, Beth.

Thank you for these posts. I’m new to your blog and find it to be WONDERFUL! I too read these in reverse order. You’ve stated so beautifully so much of what I have been feeling. Like many people I’ve known, encountered, and read for, 2016 could not end soon enough. It was a gut punching year unlike any in my memory. I’ve been feeling and intuiting much of what I read here and feel like 2017 has offered me a gift in finding your writing. Looking forward to reading and learning from you.
