Inspiring Enchantment & Illumination with Tarot & Intuitive Guidance

Tarot Card of the Week, Feb. 16-22, 2015: Ace of Pentacles

Ace of PentaclesNot what we have, but what we enjoy, constitutes our abundance.
~John Petit-Senn, French poet (1792–1870)

This week of the Lunar New Year and New Moon, the climax of Mardis Gras, plus the Sun’s ingress into the last sign of the astrological year — Pisces — we are blessed with an unusual second Ace in a row. And, like last week’s Ace of Cups, it has only visited three times before, in all these years. Welcome to the Ace of Pentacles.

The Disc or Pentacle may represent a sacred shield, a coin, or even a scrying mirror of destiny. But its power is to manifest into physical reality that which your imagination (Air), desire (Fire), or heart (Water) long for.

As with all Aces of the Tarot, this card holds the full potential of its suit.  Each Ace shows the hand of the Divine emerging from a cloud and offering a gift.

The Garden

This Ace is being given from within a garden, that numinous place where the will of Nature and humanity work in harmony. It is also the place from which some of the major religions, sadly, believe we have been exiled and banished.

Who, we might ask, really banished us?  Might it be possible that rejection was never true and that we have been welcome at the banquet of Divine plenty all along?

This week, people around the world are celebrating a second New Year. For devout Christians, after the splurge of Mardis Gras and Carnival, the season of austerity and sacrifice, Lent, begins.

Speaking of austerity, in the international scene, there are intense financial pressures underway, and storm clouds of war gathering in the Middle East.

And yet, the Ace of Pentacles promises hopeful possibilities for our personal prosperity, abundance, health, security, and groundedness.

The Source of Abundance

It has unfailingly been the case in my life that when I am most fearful about my money, charitable giving and loving sharing bring me back into emotional balance. Such acts always seem to have a powerful effect of opening up access to new abundance for me.

So for the many, many people who are struggling in this time of uncertainty, there is tremendous hope in this card. Rather than a stingy, fear-focused response to economic troubles, the better, more long-term solution is almost certainly to adopt a policy of support and generosity.

This week, there is a potential for a new start, one that has, in its very structure, the elements for a successful outcome. Could there be a promotion, new job, or inheritance coming for you? Is it time to begin a new, happier relationship with money? Are you considering buying a new home, or upgrading your current dwelling?

Although Winter is certainly not finished with us yet, this Ace suggests we might get started on our Spring cleaning.

Additionally, be on the lookout for a new opportunity or gift that brings you pleasure. This is a time to re-discover the wonders of your physical body. Perhaps you might get a massage, begin a new workout regimen, or learn to prepare new kinds of nurturing foods. This is also an invitation for exploring new sensual delights.

Pagan Lent

I have long loved the idea of Pagan Lent during this time. But instead of sacrificial deprivation, I prefer to think of it as a cleansing tonic to prepare for Spring.

For instance, this is the time of year when I cut our roses back hard, as I can already see the buds of their new growth blushing in readiness for their imminent resurrection.  This ensures a more abundant, healthy blossoming.

Following this model, we ourselves may well shed pounds, clutter, and distractions, resulting a more focused, successful growing season.

In what ways might you make way for a new level of comfort, beauty and solidity to your life?  How can you use this opportunity to improve your sense of abundance and security?

This Ace is a bit conservative, and it does not give you a green light for wild risk-taking, overspending, or flights of fantasy. But if your activities are grounded, practical, and steady, very good things are likely.

Build a strong foundation and plant your New Moon/Lunar New Year seeds for what nurtures you.  By doing so, you can expect a fruitful harvest in the days to come.

Ground yourself in work that you love, in the body that brings you pleasure, and align yourself with the beautiful gifts of Earth Herself.

This week, the hand of providence invites you to realize that Paradise was never lost. It is being offered to you right here and now, this very week.
