Opulence is the law of the universe, an abundant supply for every need, if nothing is put in the way of its coming.
~ Ralph Waldo Trine (1866-1958)
Here is a relative rarity. Back for the first time since August of 2009, we welcome the Nine of Pentacles.
It features a strong, self-reliant woman of comfortable means. She stands tall under a sunny yellow sky, her garden lush with grapes. The flowers on her dress are reminiscent of the sign for Venus, reminding us of The Empress.
This is a woman who surrounds herself with life, fruitfulness, and the beauty she creates and chooses. She is graceful in her independence, and finds happiness in herself. Opulence is completely natural to her.
She holds a hooded falcon – the wild spirit who obeys the will of its mistress. This is a reminder that although she is surrounded by cultivation and refinement, and is certainly a gentlewoman, she can also tap into her fierce, predatory instincts when needed. For now, though, restraint and peace dominate the scene.
All of the nines speak to our solitude, seen most obviously in the Major Arcana’s nine, The Hermit. The Minors’ nines are a pause, as we fully absorb the energies of that suit. And the Pentacles are the energies of the material world: wealth, health, the land, and abundance of all kinds.
The Nine of Pentacles portrays a woman of independent means, sheltered in her garden. Like her, our true safe haven is the natural world, which was never our enemy, and from which we must not (and, thankfully, cannot) really be separated.
While geopolitical conflict and economic challenges continue to dominate today’s headlines, this card is a reminder that most people reading this are staggeringly wealthy, compared to the majority of the world’s population. We take for granted comforts that would astonish kings and emperors of old.
Now is the time for reflection on what safety, wealth, and security truly mean. Chiron, who, by his own wounds, is gifted with extraordinary healing gifts, is aligned with this week’s magical Full Moon. This can illuminate the way for the deep healing of some ancient wounds.
For instance, when we begin to shift our patterns of greed, domination, and exploitation, we remove the artificial barriers to abundance. When we heal humanity’s myths of punishment, scarcity, and exile, a garden awaits. We are surrounded by overflowing fruitfulness, beauty, and Nature’s bounty.
In this week of the magical Harvest Moon, be sure to celebrate the fruition of your own harvests, both literal and figurative. No cash is required to hone your appreciation of fine art, literature, beautiful music, and the bounty of Mother Earth as She changes seasons.
Savor all the glorious riches that life is offering you. Above all, give true thanks for all that is given.
May your week be fruitfully, peacefully blessed.
