Tarot Card of the Week, June 23-29, 2014: Queen of Pentacles

Pentacles QueenYou can only become truly accomplished at something you love. Don’t make money your goal. Instead, pursue the things you love doing, and then do them so well that people can’t take their eyes off you.
~ Maya Angelou

My goodness!  Here is a card we haven’t seen since 2008! In this week of the New Moon in Her home sign of Cancer, we welcome the Queen of Pentacles!

Pentacles, of course, are Earth energy: money, career, health, practical matters, and the physical, material realm. And we have a Court card – which can be challenging because the Courts can either be an actual person we know (we ourselves, or someone else), or they might indicate a particular kind of energy being brought to bear.

The Queens of the Tarot are, to me, Priestesses, Mothers, and Goddess energy. Rather than the hierarchical powerover of the Kings, they teach us the nurturing power from within.

The Queen of Pentacles is a woman who is materially secure, even wealthy. She has a great appreciation of beautiful objects, home, and creature comforts.

She holds the Pentacle gently but firmly on her lap, knowing that there is no disconnect between the material and the spiritual, for to be fully alive is wealth beyond imagination.  She knows she is the steward, not the possessor, of her prosperity.

Her throne is outdoors, beneath a rose arbor.  It is carved with the symbols of Capricorn, and she is surrounded with vines and flowers; there are also mountains and rivers (or lakes) in the background.

The Queen suggests that there is that there is no such thing as lack to those who are open to the flow of magic that is the life force itself. Her gifts include robust health, vitality, and sexuality. The magical hare in the foreground indicates fertility and good fortune.

All of Nature is her treasure. She may be a splendid gardener, cook, mechanic, herbalist, animal caretaker, or environmental guardian. She is a trusted guide for appreciating what is sacred in the “mundane.” She is your favorite Earth Mother, nurturer, wealth maker, and skillful pragmatist.

This Week

In what ways do you need to address matters of down-to-earth importance? Are you facing any sorts of health issues or financial concerns?

The Queen offers reassurance that you are meant to be happy, healthy, and content. If you are dealing with job, home, illness, or other practical concerns, she can help.

This week’s New Moon offers a beautiful moment of magic for such matters, since it is in the sign of Cancer. Nurturing, nest-making, family wealth and health, and all that is needed for comfort and security are woven into its energy.

Plant your wishes on this New Moon, if you wish to enhance these aspects of your life, with the Queen of Pentacles presiding.

She reminds us that magic is everywhere, and there can be plenty for all. The politics of inadequacy, stinginess, and competition is an illusion, created by those who would hold all the power.

When you are in love with your life, there is no lack. Gratitude begets abundance. Money is not the goal, joy in what you do and share is the source of wealth.

Let Nature shower you with blessings this week; like the Queen, let your throne be, not in some dreary castle, but in the meadows and forests.

May the rich bounty of the Summer’s ripeness fill your heart, and so it shall fill your practical needs as well.

Beth, here I am again….loving to respond to your Card of the Week commentary with the synchronous messages in my own life. Just this morning, I was called to do a personal reading with the Medicine Cards (Jamie Sams, et al), and the main message centered around allowing the Mother energy to soothe, sustain, support and fill my life at this time. East: Spider/weaving; South: Bear/introspection; West: Armadillo/boundaries; North: Wolf/teacher; sacred center: Turtle/Mother Earth….Mother Earth at the Sacred Center…Queen of Pentacles for this week’s guide…How can we ever doubt the Universe’s constant conversation with us? Thank you, my dear, for YOU.

This card is lovely. I can not tell you how thrilled I was to see it, as the Queen of Pentacles really resonates with me, being a Taurus and also keeping an eye on my finances and home.

We are moving this Thursday into a house. A big move and a big purchase. I was not happy with the wall color, it had all been repainted a neutral shade, that I call “Baby-poo beige”. It looked like with Mercury in Retrograde I wasn’t going to find a painter, a gas leak was discovered and finding someone to fix it was next to impossible, and the new vinyl windows were on back order. Very freaked out by all that. By the end of last week, I had painter, and this week it is all coming together. Almost all the new windows are in, the “baby-poo beige” has been replaced with white in the family areas, an accent wall in the living room, and happy colors in the bedrooms. The new windows came in early and are almost done being installed. The gas leak was fixed and cost less then expected, and the gas company checked all the appliances and replaced the regulator. The only thing that is done is all the packing, but it’s all the small stuff that can be gradually moved out over the next few days, once the bigger stuff is in.

I feel like the Queen was watching out for my family. Two of my co-workers really helped out. One with her truck and helping me move small to medium stuff and taking me to stores to buy the big stuff that won’t fit into a Honda, and the other by bringing her husband over to help us build a platform for our house rabbits pen. While he built, she helped me weed the backyard, and helped my kids figure out our ice maker in the new fridge. I am fortunate to be surrounded by since caring and generous people.
