Another world is not only possible, she is on her way. On a quiet day, I can hear her breathing.
~ Arundati Roy
Only a month after her last visit, and for an unprecedented fourth time in a year, the Queen of Wands comes calling once more.
If you would like a more traditional analysis of her, please read my previous post here.
But because she seems to be so persistent in her visitations, and because she appears in this week that is so heavy with meaning, bringing us one of the most intense astrological configurations of the year, I thought I would take a little detour from my usual format.
As you most certainly know by now, we are in Week 2 of a Mercury retrograde. Are we having fun yet?
As if that is not enough, on Friday, Nov. 1, we reach the exact mid-point of the ongoing revolutionary transitions being triggered by the Uranus-Pluto squares of 2012-2015. And then on Sunday, the New Moon of Scorpio, already quite powerful, thank you very much, is amplified by a solar eclipse.
Throw into this volatile mix the fact that this is the week of Samhain – the great Sabbat that opens wide the gateways of the ancestors and beloved dead. This is the final harvest, the last celebration on the edge of the dark Winter’s approach, and it marks the Celtic New Year.
Celebrated for thousands of years in cultures around the globe as a time to make peace with death, it is when the exchanges between the mundane and the unseen Mysteries are at their peak.
So how does the Queen of Wands guide us through all this complexity?
I think that she has a gift for us in these fraught times – and has reappeared yet again to offer it once more.
First, I want to comment on this steady stream of Wands we’ve been having. Week after week, with only a few exceptions. Wands are magic, of course, and I think they are beating a rhythm calling for change, change, change!
The Queen of Wands models how to thrive in such times, with sovereignty and success. She shines with magnanimity and mastery.
In a week that some are calling an astrological hurricane, the Queen suggests nothing less than a new model of civilization, one that I believe must replace the corrupt, dying power structures of the past.
Wands are ruled by the element of fire and therefore are about our creativity, passion, and daring. The feminine energy of this Queen is directly opposed to the hierarchical model of power that has dominated the organizations of politics, religion, social control, and economics for millennia.
Although she takes responsibility, and will have the final word if conflict arises, I think one of her greatest strengths is her ability to empower others, thus inspiring commitment and cooperation among all.
Her rule is gentle, even playful, yet focused on complete success. Her willingness to share command with those who meet her high standards ensures that she attracts only the very best, most talented, and passionate team. Her insistence that she herself meet those same demands is proof of her great integrity.
How different our world would be with such a Queen guiding things.
For generations, we have endured the selfish, scorched earth policies of the privileged few. Our leaders continuously play a hypocritical zero-sum game with the lives and well-being of the citizenry, for agendas rarely shared in full disclosure.
With the Queen of Wands, what you see is what you get. She shines in full view, and keeps nothing hidden. Her preference is to share, because she knows that power shared is not lost, but instead, is amplified.
What a revolution it would be, if the entire value system of the decaying hierarchy was upended, and human-to-human progress and caring trumped self-righteous avarice.
Such change is not only possible, but it is deeply necessary.
And on a quiet day, with the Queen of Wands as inspiration, I can hear it breathing.
