If you want to live a happy life, tie it to a goal, not to people or things.
~ Albert Einstein
In a week that features a New Moon, the Sun squaring Pluto on Tuesday, and opposing Uranus on Thursday, and the game of “chicken” being played out in the American government, we welcome the Eight of Wands.
The Eights of the Tarot are about abilities, innovation, self-directed action, and forging ahead. And of course, Wands are about fire, change, action, growth, and energy.
Here we have a powerful but simple image – the only card in the R-W-S deck that has no human reference. In fact, there are no figures, animals, or celestial bodies of any sort.
It is the pure energy of eight Wands, flying like arrows across a deep blue sky. All are in perfect alignment and balance. The Wands are approaching the Earth, so the Fire is finding its goal.
Arthur Waite describes this card as the Arrows of Love, so this can be a fortunate card for beginning or deepening a love affair, with proposals offered and accepted. The timing is especially auspicious for the relationship-loving Libra New Moon.
This week on the global stage, the Eight of Wands would point to some clear purpose and focused agenda being played out, as the perilous gamble of brinkmanship now unfolds in the United States.
What is the true aim of this drama? While the consequences are still “up in the air,” forces are now moving that cannot be called back. The end result is not yet visible, but it seems assured.
Friday’s Libra New Moon offers a magical opportunity to set new goals. Libra especially supports skills in negotiation, diplomacy, and striking a healthy balance – in our relationships, health, and judgment, for example. The Eight of Wands encourages us to set our standards high.
Are you are finding yourself with too much on your plate? Simplifying and streamlining will do wonders for your energy.
Wands do not go flying in this highly organized pattern without careful preparation. Frantic action for its own sake is unhelpful. This is not the time for multi-tasking, busywork, or scattered ambitions.
Commit to your most cherished targets, and launch your best efforts.
Be bold, be clear. Change is in the air.
