You can’t just sit there and wait for people to give you that golden dream. You’ve got to get out there and make it happen for yourself.
~ Diana Ross – Sun and Mercury in Aries
This morning at 7:02 Eastern/4:02 Pacific, the Sun left the sign of Pisces and moved into Aries, marking the Equinox (Vernal above the equator and Autumnal below).
Aries is ruled by Mars and is the first one to get things started, initiating projects and leading others. A cardinal (creative and inventive) sign, Aries the Ram governs leadership and initiative. The Ram is adventurous, ambitious, impulsive, enthusiastic, and full of energy.
People born when the Sun is in Aries are pioneers both in thought and action, and are very open to new ideas. Aries loves freedom and absolutely hates feeling controlled.
Aries people often love to walk on the wild side, and even the most mild-mannered ones are likely to have at least one area of their lives where they enjoy picking fights, playing devil’s advocate, or breaking the rules.
They welcome challenges and if they don’t have enough, they will create some! Aries people will not be diverted from their purpose except by their own impatience, which can surface if they don’t get quick results.
How the Sun in Aries Affects Everyone
(March 20 – April 19)
As the first sign in the zodiac, this marks the beginning of the Astrological New Year. Following the traditional Solar and Lunar New Years’ observances, and the dedication rites associated with Imbolc, this gives us one last holiday in which to set our long-term intentions for a fresh start to the year.
Because it coincides with the beginning of the Astrological Year, and the first day of Spring, in 1993, this day was declared to be International Astrology Day by the Association for Astrological Networking (AFAN). Why not celebrate by making an appointment with your favorite astrologer and see what your chart looks like for the new year?
As to how we are all affected when the Sun is in Aries, astrologer Rebecca Brents notes that everyone may be unusually “candid, blunt, emphatic and concerned with winning… It’s time to make an impression, stir up some action, and ‘take on the world.’”
But she also warns that during this time, when we are stressed, we may have a tendency to turn “belligerent, argumentative, touchy, and impatient.” Beware of impulses to become pushy, uncooperative, cranky, and downright rude, especially with several other powerful planets also in the sign of the war God.
Astrologer Remy Lindsey writes of this year’s Aries beginning, “We start anew and are offered the opportunity to acknowledge what we would like to bring with us into the light. This cycle occurs yearly and this year we have three planets in Aries and three planets in Pisces, which is unique!
“The last month with Sun in Pisces offered an abundance of opportunity to experience our own brand of darkness. Many were ill, depressed, hopeless.
“Mercury is now direct and with Sun in Aries things will be looking up, life will be more exciting! Take a deep breath and open up to new possibilities. Let the games begin!”
In the time of Aries, we are all urged to light the fires of action and passion. Life is vibrant now with possibilities.
We are surrounded by the energy of the warrior, the pioneer, the entrepreneur, and the trailblazer. Got a dream? Well, get going! Get energized! Be creative, dynamic, and a little wild!
Whatever your Sun sign may be, Aries dares you to put the brilliance of your own life into action!
Do you have a friend or loved one with an Aries Birthday (between March 20 and April 19)? Or maybe you are a Ram who is hoping to make this upcoming birthday the beginning of your best year yet!
