Late yesterday, or very early today, depending on where you live, the dark, New Moon arrived in Her own sign of Cancer. For us Cancerians, this marks our Lunar New Year.
Almost immediately after the exact moment of the New Moon, the Moon turned void-of-course, and then shifted into Leo, where She resides this morning — replenishing, renewing, and growing once more.
At the New Moon, the night sky is at its deepest dark, but the lunar light will now begin to return.
I am very much feeling the same way in my own spirit. Tides are turning and changes are stirring that are not yet visible, but something new is coming. Soon it will shine.
To honor this quiet fruition, I am scaling back my appointment and work schedule, and preparing for some retreat time, starting week after next. I’ll be taking advantage of the gifts of Mercury retrograde, my Solar return, and the ongoing shifts that my second Saturn return has been pressing upon me.
But for now, let us join together, and make a blessing with this magical time of the New Moon. Here are some suggestions from two of my favorite astrologers, Lynn Hayes and Rhea Wolf. May your rites be beautifully blessed! ~ Beth
New Moon in Cancer, July 18/19th 2012. Prepare to be revealed!
We have had a couple of intense weeks between the square between Uranus and Pluto (discussed in numerous places on Lynn’s blog) and a strong influence of Mars setting off a series of planets over the past week or so.
This intensity is embedded in the chart of the New Moon in Cancer on the 19th (18th in any time zone west of Eastern time). The New Moon offers an opportunity to wipe the slate clean and begin anew, and in Cancer we find ourselves discovering emotional depth that we may have ignored in the past. Cancer rules the inner world – our feelings, our desire to nurture and be cared for, our tribal identifications such as to family or country.
The Cancerian New Moon is extra sensitive, and with Mars in an awkward in conjunct to Chiron during the New Moon this may not be the most comfortable time emotionally. Feelings are being elicited from us that may leave us feeling exposed and raw (Mars), but it’s all part of the energetic shift that is helping us to release some of the emotional sheathing that is no longer needed and which may be holding us back from the kind of energetic transformation that is occurring now.
Saturn is challenging the New Moon, so some kind of focused plan or effort will be required to navigate this lunation (lunar event). Honoring this time of sacred new beginnings by creating a solid intention will help to integrate Saturn in a way that is useful and beneficial, especially since Jupiter embraces us with positive energy at the New Moon.
Meanwhile a beneficial aspect from Jupiter to Uranus helps us to gain greater understanding at the higher level, and a pleasant trine from Mars to Jupiter gives us the confidence and enthusiasm we need to embrace these changes and look forward to the positive effects they will bring.
A challenging square from Jupiter to Chiron is just beginning to make itself known at the New Moon but will culminate on the 24th. For a week or so before and a few days after that date we may feel particularly sensitive as the urge for freedom (Jupiter) rushes to heal old wounds (Chiron) perhaps a bit before we feel we are ready. Jupiter opens the doors to liberation, so while this heightened sensitivity isn’t comfortable, it can be the key to personal freedom.
New Moons are times to create something new, so look inside your life to see where a fresh new beginning is ready to make itself known.
Cancer is the sign of the Crab, and is sensitive, emotional and nurturing. It is ruled by the Moon, and as such is changeable and goes through light and dark phases. Using the energy of this New Moon on July 18th, we call in the power to take responsibility for our own feelings and to help others feel more comfortable with their own emotional states.
With Cancer, we have an opportunity to tune into the archetypal Feminine, finding ways to balance periods of activity with time for deep reflection and inner-work.
To tap into the New Moon power, you may want to take some time to journal or contemplate these issues. Then create affirmations about those areas related to the sign of Cancer. Here are some things to consider for your New Moon Intentions:
- What makes you feel emotionally secure and loved?
- What issues from your past need to be resolved/healed/released?
- Are there places you have been holding on to your emotions?
- Where would you like to cultivate more nurturing toward yourself and others?
- Healing for breasts and stomach
- Restoring a healthy relationship with food and nurturing your body
- Spending more time with your family
- Stepping out of tendencies to over-react to emotions
- Letting go of defensive armor
- Healing old wounds, especially in regard to Mothers and relationships with women in general
- Inviting time for personal reflection into your daily life.
