How To Live By Your Spiritual Vision in a Money-Based World

Look in the mirror. This is who you are going to be working for from now on.
— Carol Bridges

With the great turning tide of the calendar year, moving into the next decade of the new millennium, this is a fortuitous time to make profound changes, turn our lives in brand new directions, and set sail for a splendid, more soulful future; perhaps the one we have waited our whole life to create.

To help with that journey, yesterday and today I’ve offered a couple of road maps: books that, when used faithfully and willingly, can change your life in ways that bring you the creative empowerment, joy, and authenticity you desire.

Today’s suggestion is one that is very map-like indeed. It is a step-by-step workbook for creating the life you desire, specifically in the realm of work and career, something that is very much on our minds these days. Its subtitle pretty much says it all: “How to Live By Your Spiritual Vision in a Money-Based World.”

I am referring to the marvelous book by Carol Bridges, “The Medicine Woman’s Guide to Being in Business for Yourself.” Not only for women, and not only about business, this book will change forever any conflicts you have felt about being a spiritual Being in a materialistic world.

Working with imagery from her shamanic practice, she has written an instruction manual for combining your soul’s longing for a life purpose with creating graceful success in the “real” world. It is a tool that you can use again and again, not only to transition from your job to your soul’s calling, but for fine tuning and revitalizing your work wherever you are in that continuum.

“People want the nitty-gritty of how to go about making the changes they see are needed,” she writes, “while still providing for their families and meeting their obligations. Yet many intuitive and creative people will not be reached by the average business how-to book. … This book is for the creatively endowed and the financially below average… Ancient systems of harmony underlie the sound business advice offered in this workbook.”

Indeed they do! Each step of the path is based on the Major Arcana of the Tarot. For example, starting with Zero – The Fool – she suggests you spend plenty of time with your “Seed Vision.” That is, before deciding what goal to aim for, explore all the potential before you: “This is the ground zero, the beginning, the circle of openness, of possibility, of nothing set, nothing formed. All is yet to come into actual being.”

She continues guiding us with this process, introducing us to familiar Major Arcana archetypes, like Bounty (The Empress), Command (The Emperor), Warrior (Chariot), Vision (Hanged Man), and culminating with Dancer (The World). In each of these steps, she offers very practical ways to cultivate your vision for right livelihood, and manifest abundance in the world of business and material reality.

Like many of the other books I’ve recommended over the years (including, of course, our Artist’s Way work), this is not one just to read, thinking, “Mm-hmm, isn’t that interesting,” and hope something will happen. If change is what you desire, or growth, or fulfillment — you must be willing to act. Do the steps and faithfully work the formula.  You will be amazed at the results!

Now is the time. Tomorrow, on a most magical Full Blue Moon and eclipse, we’ll say goodbye to 2009; to all those hopes and fears that shaped the first ten years of this new millennium. Then it is time to look ahead to the untapped potential of the future.

May we find a way to begin to know our authentic heart’s desires, and in the coming year, weave the magic to make our most splendid dreams come true.

Don’t know how I would have made it through the past couple of years without your website as sanctuary, teacher, healer — all in one. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for continuing to provide this heartfelt service. Happy New Year. Cathy

    This is a welcome recommendation.
I especially like this from your post:
“For example, starting with Zero – The Fool – she suggests you spend plenty of time with your “Seed Vision.” That is, before deciding what goal to aim for, explore all the potential before you”
I’m in that state right now and I can feel the tug of wanting to stretch faster, harder, more – knowing that’s not right yet.
Looks like this might be the book to read a chapter a year! S-L-O-W-L-Y LOL
Also good for a beginner to Tarot. A practical application.
Happy New Year and Thank You
