Inspiring Enchantment & Illumination with Tarot & Intuitive Guidance

Feed Your Hungry Artist

What we really want to do is what we’re meant to do.
— Julia Cameron, The Artist’s Way

Beginning to cooperate with the abundance that surrounds you and wants to guide you is a critical step towards being in the creative flow. It is also one of the most toxic, fear-distorted areas in our culture, and where, as we’ve seen, so many of us need deep clearing and healing.

But I hope you are feeling some old walls crumbling, and beginning to see the possibilities. I had a moment like that when I visited a healing practice recently in my local area. As the owners showed me around their facility, I was struck by its beauty, and all the thoughtful grace that they had put into making their establishment luxurious, serene and deeply welcoming.

Of course my parsimonious old habits were also weighing it all up – prime real estate in one of the most upscale areas; fine antiques and furnishings; state of the art stereo softly playing; tasteful but expensive touches throughout. I was impressed; these folks didn’t cut any corners. Wonder where they got the megabucks?

And then, as if reading my mind, the owners shared a little secret with me. Every single step of their road in deciding to create their practice, finding the property, furnishing it, and growing it into the thriving practice that it is (yes, in this economy!) has been fully, completely faith-driven and Spirit-guided.

They are not, by the way, starry-eyed bliss ninnies mindlessly maxing out their credit; nor are they independently wealthy dabblers. They are an experienced, savvy, older couple who have been around the block more than a few times.

The wonder and delight as they shared this with me showed me the deep honesty and truth of their experience. And it reminded me once again – if your desire is for beauty, luxury, opulence – so be it. Source desires that for you as well. Why wouldn’t She? And why would She ever withhold that from you – Her most blessed and beloved child?

Julia affirms this as she writes, “When we do what we are meant to do, money comes to us, doors open for us, we feel useful, and the work we do feels like play.” It’s time, she assures us, to overturn our old ideas that “…money is hard to get. You have to work long hours to get it. You need to worry about money first and creativity second.”

And, as she notes, for those of us who have become artistically anorexic by “yearning to be creative, and refusing to feed that hunger in ourselves so that we become more and more focused on our deprivation, a little authentic luxury can go a long way.

“The operative word here is authentic. Because art is born in expansion, in a belief in sufficient supply, it is critical that we pamper ourselves for the sense of abundance it brings to us.”

This weekend, I want you to pamper your authentic artist self. Pick at least one luxury. What would that be? What treats does your inner Creator long for? A bouquet of fresh flowers on your desk? Some of those professional colored pencils from a serious art supplier? Finally making a beautiful, serene studio space for yourself? A subscription to a specialty magazine for your art? Maybe a wonderful shirt or hat that feels like a magical affirmation: I am an Artist!

As you pick one treat, don’t be surprised if the floodgates open for more. Well, maybe you should go for it. Let your mantra be, “This is extravagant but so is the God/dess!”

Ask yourself – what would Hecate do? Because as you know this is the last day of the month and on this day, we honor the great Triple Goddess Hecate, Queen of the Night and the Goddess of Witches. Hecate is a protector of women, a mighty advocate for the marginalized, and She who guards the crossroads. It is She who teaches us the ancient Mysteries.

In addition, this is the weekend of Lughnasadh – the Sabbat of the first harvest. Give thanks and help yourself to all this abundance you are becoming more attuned to. As you gather with your beloveds this weekend to celebrate the breaking of bread, feasting on the good bounty of Mother Earth, take note: the Divine is not a cheapskate. We learned to do that all by ourselves.

And starting right now, we are going to unlearn it!

    Beth Owl-

Great post as usual. I am in the process of affirming prosperity and abundance. I am in the process of looking to move. A friend and I were driving around looking for a place to rent or buy. Currently, I can comfortably afford a house in $150k range. $200k would be pushing it for me. My friend kept saying I should stretch and pulling fliers for houses in the $250k to $300K, which would take 70% of my salary or more to make the mortgage payments on.

So here's my dilemma I am working on believing in prosperity and abundance, but is there a balance between faith and being foolhardy?
I see all that greed has done to create a housing bubble and rob people of their savings/retirement, and wondering if reaching for more is having a belief in abundance or ignoring reality. How does one balance the two?
