Inspiring Enchantment & Illumination with Tarot & Intuitive Guidance

Tarot Card of the Week: April 5-12, 2009

The Fool

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.
— Mark Twain

We welcome The Fool this week, only a week after his very own holiday, April Fool’s Day! The Fool represents innocence and joy. He is like the surge of early Springtime energy that we in the Northern Hemisphere are feeling. With The Fool, everything seems fresh and new and even our wildest dreams seem possible. This is the time of the resurrection of the World, with a clean slate and infinite hope. The Fool is all about new beginnings and risk-taking. It’s time to take a leap of faith.

This is the celebration of our willingness to break free of convention, and to tell the real truth. He dares us to be more creative, and willing, yes, to even fail. For without taking that flying, crazy, daring step, we will never succeed.

In his hand, the Rider-Waite-Smith Fool holds a white rose – symbol of passion, beauty and purity. He is ready to take a leap into the unknown, but he carries his “baggage” with him, indicating he has not entirely abandoned his history or life experiences. Yet it is only the minimum he needs, nothing weighty or ponderous here. Plus, the stick upon which his bag is attached is a magic wand; perhaps he is unaware of its power.

The Fool is the Zero in the Tarot – the beginning and end of the Major Arcana journey, a magical portal, neither here, nor there. It is the opening through which life renews itself.

The Fool is only a fool to those who judge him. In his own mind, he is simply following his bliss. The Universe supports the Fool’s crazy wisdom, for he embodies our true humanity. To fall in love is to be The Fool. And no breakthrough, no cure, no discovery, no accomplishment in human history was ever made without someone being ridiculed as a Fool for trying.

This week, take your own leap of faith. Change comes to us whether we wish it or not. The Fool encourages us to create it, embrace it, and begin our journey without fear. Let go of your need to control things. Do not cling to the status quo by playing it safe, for safety is not why we are here.

Your soul is calling you. The great adventure that is your life awaits you.

This reminds me of myself in my twenties, hitchhiking in Europe with no fixed destination, a very small bag, no responsabilities, no attachment.
Humm, my bag is full now. It’s getting too heavy. I think I need to throw away those heavy stones I have been collecting over the years.

Good point! I remember being able to pack everything I owned into the back of my dad’s Rambler station wagon. I mean EVERYTHING! That was long, long ago..

It’s so interesting to find all the small nuances enclosed in these Tarot cards – they are certainly not as they first seem. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I am so happy to have found God Says Yes To Me on your previous post. I thought I was the only one who carried on like this, and its a joy to find someone who has written such happy personal feelings out so well. We should all be a lot kinder with ourselves!.-P.

    Thanks, Beth.
No wonder I am feeling like a kid today. I have wondered how I could be feeling so happy & free no matter what!
