The Sun moves into the sign of Pisces today. Pisces is ruled by the fish, but according to astrologer Jon Cainer, a more accurate symbol might be the dolphin. He explains, “These graceful, intelligent creatures live in harmony with each other and their environment. To see a dolphin at play is to see Creation at its most majestic and the essence of true Piscean magic at work.
“Pisceans, so the story goes, are wistful, whimsical, misty-eyed dreamers who live in a cloud cuckoo land. It is said that they simply do not possess the power of rational thought because they are creatures entirely of instinct.”
But, he insists, what most people would consider escapism is, for a Pisces, an act of courage and even survival. “It sometimes seems that everyone who needs a shoulder to cry on or someone to confide in selects one of these gentle, approachable people. Unfortunately, Pisceans tend to absorb emotional energy rather like a sponge and eventually, it seeps out in the form of nervous energy and a desire to retreat into the world of imagination. This is why Pisceans are often prone to overindulge their senses in an attempt to escape from their own sensitivity. They love to fantasize. Their ruling planet is Neptune.”
And if it’s the beginning of Pisces, then, in the Celtic Tree Calendar, it must be the beginning of the Month of Ash. In some traditions, this month is considered the most sacred of all because it honors Yggdrasil, the World Ash Tree, the universal principle of Balance.
The Ash, also called Nion, is a time for casting runes, and for magical incantations and music. Ash people are often unusually attractive, impulsive, and heart-centered.
Ash tree people have an artistic nature and temperament, and while they can be highly vulnerable or sensitive, they can also be quite pragmatic. Like Pisceans, people born under this sign are guided, above all, by compassion.
