Unknown thousands (judging by the hundreds and hundreds of posts in the basically impotent Blogger Help Groups) were blocked from using their blogs due to some internal algorithm from Blogger that supposedly detects spammer blogsites. Yeah, my blog really fits this profile. Even after clicking on an email link to verify that we were legitimate, we were shut out until we could be “reviewed.”
It was interesting to discover that there is NO tech support contact information for Blogger. All anyone can do is post in the Help Group. Not even an email address. This is the future, folks: Faceless anonymity, no personal contact, no accountability and no recourse.
Needless to say, it was a major drag, and of course a disaster for journalists, teachers, service groups, etc. whose livelihood is through their blogs. Meantime, Blogger is pretending that it was only a small blip. For almost 18 hours of down time, they ignored the screams for help and are still calling it “a few” people. Sorry, but thousands of users were locked out.
If this ever happens again, you will be finding me on WordPress or Typepad or some other host. I’ll do my best to let you know.
Again, my apologies. I’m just glad to be back. For now.
