Today is the second New Moon of the calendar (solar) month. In the way that the Blue Moon is a second Full Moon in a month, the second New Moon is called a Black Moon or a Faery Moon. The New Moon is the moment between the dying, waning phase and new lunar cycle’s birth. On this night no Moon is visible in the sky anywhere on the Earth.
During the New Moon, we are invited to be still, to listen to our inner voice and intuition that is guiding us, as we plant the new seed of the coming cycle. You might write down your intentions for what you wish to manifest. And on this particular Moon, we have at our service the wonderful Virgo energies to call upon.
Willow’s Web Astrology notes that during this powerful New Moon, “Our movements will be more soul-guided and meditative than usual, and it might be unclear exactly what to do from a strictly logical perspective. If you have felt confused, stay still and listen until your soul takes the lead… Feelings of depression and lower physical energy are common (and purposeful) at this time…though this is often uncomfortable.

“This New Moon, Black Moon in Virgo follows the solar and lunar eclipses of August, making this New Moon an even more powerful push than usual into a new cycle. The eclipses shook a lot of things loose. Things are not the same, and we need to listen carefully to our internal guidance to instruct the next steps.”
Astrologer Jeannette Jackson adds, “New Moons are all about setting intentions and Virgo is about the harvest. Virgo wants you to look within and around you; examine what your ego has brought you. Virgo has a detailed, critical eye. It helps you be honest with yourself! If you don’t like what you see, you can change it. The possibility of change is what makes Virgo such a healer. By bringing you the harvest, Virgo forces you to contend with what you are doing.
“If you don’t like what you’re reaping — change what you’re sowing. This New Moon in particular is a perfect time to do so — supersonic manifestation is guaranteed if you are clear and honest about what you are asking for.”
Astrologers Jeff Jawer and Rick Levine agree that this practical and detail-oriented Virgo New Moon is a great time to start healthy new habits. “The focus and dedication of this sign are underscored by the New Moon’s conjunction with disciplined Saturn.
“Patterns established now can endure for a long time, so it’s vital to turn negative thinking into positive action. Don’t let the size of obstacles deter you from advancing your interests as patient Saturn and pragmatic Virgo are an excellent combination for producing slow and steady progress that can reshape your life one small step at a time.”
