On this auspicious New Moon in Pisces, we are invited to make a new, fresh start. This weekend, we’ll turn our clocks forward, and suddenly we have long hours before sunset. Already, the buds are opening where I live, and even those who live in lands far north are beginning to see unmistakable hints of Spring.
Astrologer Lisa Dale Miller writes of this New Moon, “This year, the Pisces New Moon features a celestial contest to determine which jam-packed constellation will be most influential: transcendent, blissful Sun/Moon/Uranus in Pisces, or Venus/Neptune/Mercury/Chiron/North Node in “wake up or else” Aquarius. Add the hard-nosed intensity of Pluto and Jupiter in “show me reality” Capricorn, and the compassionate action of Mars in Cancer, and we’ve got ourselves a New Moon ripe for direct revelation of these most basic, yet paradoxically intertwined truths:
We are nothing and everything; full and empty. All dualistic existence is interconnected and sourced in that which abides beyond duality. We can actively awaken to this realization of essential connectedness through the relinquishment of hatred, fear, violence, and greed. This and each successive moment presents an opportunity to choose love and peace.”
And my friend, astrologer Lynn Hayes explains, “The New Moon on March 7 is at 17 degrees Pisces, the sign of spiritual experience and creativity. With the Sun conjunct the Moon, there is a linking of the conscious mind to the unconscious instinctive urges, fusing in a celebration of the divine experience that is the realm of Pisces. New Moons are known to be auspicious times for new ventures, and this New Moon is tightly conjunct Uranus, God of radical change and innovation. A powerful influence to aid us as we walk down a completely new path!
“We also see the influence of Jupiter coming into play as it approaches a sextile (harmonious aspect) to Uranus which will be exact late in March. This Jupiter/Uranus combination brings with it an excitement and eagerness for change and a readiness to move into the next phase.”
Another one of my favorite astrologers, Dan Furst, writes of this time, “The end of the zodiac year in Pisces month (Feb. 19 – March 20) has traditionally been a time not to launch the new enterprise — a company, a project, a marriage, a show — because the vague, dreamy Neptunian month just before Spring simply does not have in it the clarity or force of will to move new things forward. That’s what Aries month is for. Pisces month is for meditating and visioning, and looking into Neptune’s mirror of the sea, or any water, to see what is waiting there, depending on what each one has come to find.”
So is this the beginning or the ending? Although these interpretations may sound contradictory, I don’t think they are. After all, it appears to me that time is not linear, after all; it is a Circle, don’t you think?
Therefore, today, if you haven’t already, I suggest you use this New Moon’s power to do some deep clearing, reflecting and preparing for the turning over into Aries/Spring in two weeks. Sow your seeds of new beginnings by preparing fertile, receptive conditions for them.
Grace draws near. Let us be prepared for a grand welcoming!
