Tarot Card of the Week – Dec. 3 – 9

Eight of Wands

If you would hit the mark, you must aim a little above it; every arrow that flies feels the attraction of earth.

— Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

Here we have an image of eight wands, flying like arrows, all in alignment and balance. The wands are approaching the Earth, and the fire of the will is finding its goal.

The Eight of Wands is one of only two pips in Pamela Colman Smith’s Minor Arcana that has no human figures in it (not counting the human hands in the Aces). This notable exception may indicate that this week we are dealing more with abstract energy, rather than specific personalities or particular events.

The eights of the Tarot are about abilities, self-directed action, and moving ahead. And of course, wands are about fire, action, desire, growth, and energy. So things will be moving swiftly forward, activity now picks up, but it can be in an orderly, focused way.

Waite describes this card as the Arrows of Love, so if you have been in suspense over some affairs of the heart, a happy conclusion is near, with proposals offered and accepted.

And now, with the holiday season full upon us, there is lots to do and a whirlwind of activity that could otherwise be chaotic. The Eight of Wands can help you prioritize and organize so that you meet all your goals easily.

It is also associated with Mercury in Sagittarius, so this would be an excellent time to take advantage of all those mail order catalogs that have been piling up since Labor Day, or to use computer technology to help you get everything done quickly and efficiently. People in the communications or information technology fields are going to feel a real upsurge of activity.

In all cases, it is time to line up your resources and move towards a swift conclusion that is coming soon. Love is in the Air! The arrows of desire are now organizing and focusing. If your aim has been true, successful completion lies directly ahead.
