Blessings of the Scorpio New Moon

Dark of the Moon
New beginnings
Dark of the Moon
Plant a seed tonight
Dark of the Moon
What we envision
Will come to be
By the Full Moon’s light.

Today brings a powerful New Moon, one that touches on Mystery and transformation at the deepest levels.

Astrologer Lisa Dale Miller writes, “Sometimes referred to as Lunar Samhain, the New Moon in Scorpio is a night when the veil is thin between the living and the spirit world. Great insights can be gained on this night through contact with spirit teachers: be they animal, mineral, angelic, or ancestral. Open your mind to the wisdom that flows from the other side. You may even find you have a new set of cosmic helpers after this New Moon ritual! Use your ritual to journey to the depths of your soul.”

However, she cautions us, “Don’t think this will be some kind of new-agey joyride! If you are real with yourself and dive deep into the core of your unconscious, this will be challenging and scary. If you brave the murky depths, you will arrive at that sacred place beyond fear, pain and illusion. There are many ways to do this, but on a New Moon in Scorpio it is best to work in the dark.”

With the watery Scorpio energy, I would also suggest that scrying into a dark cauldron might be a powerful way to seek these new depths of understanding.

But this night’s journey is not all about looking backwards. In many cultures, this season brings the New Year, and this New Moon is it. My friend, astrologer Lynn Hayes notes, “During the New Moon, the Sun’s power of conscious will is stronger than the lunar flow of subconscious emotions, which is why New Moons are considered auspicious times for new beginnings. There is an unadulterated stream of intention that flows from the New Moon and offers an opportunity for change.

“In Scorpio, we delve into the underworld of our emotions and face the raw reality of life and death. Transformation is the key here: digging up the dead and dying debris of our psychological history in order to make room for something new to be reborn.”
Stay well grounded as you do this work, and may your New Moon rebirth be powerful and wonderous.

Happy New Moon.
Happy New Year.

I really like the colors in that painting and would like to work with them. Do you know where I can find a larger copy of it?

(I also like that she looks Egyptian).

AND you helped me to see the importance of the approaching Scorpio moon. I’m Scorpio rising, and I’ve been prolific with the life/death philosophizing the last three days. 😉

Oh, dear, Copper.. I am so sorry. I found this image several year ago before I was trying to be more scrupulous about attribution. Alas – after a lot of Googling, I cannot seem to find the original image, nor the artist who did this beautiful piece. It is one of my favorites, too. Yes, she does feel very Egyptian, and I believe she is a Goddess.

But I am so glad you connected with this powerful Scorpio moon. May it bring you rich depths of wisdom.

Thanks–there’s enough in the little image to work with, and Mir helped me to guess at the paint colors…
