Tarot Card for June 29-July 5, 2015: The Full Moon Welcomes The Empress

The EmpressTo know you have enough is to be rich.
Lao-Tzu, Tao Te Ching

What a delight and a blessing, as The Empress visits in the week that features the potent combination of the Sun in the sign of mothering, nurturing Cancer, and the Full Moon in the prosperity-manifesting, abundance-loving Capricorn.

Welcoming Beauty and Fertile Abundance

You can see that The Empress presides over a field of wheat, with trees and a stream with a waterfall in the background. She is abundant, lush, fertile, and relaxes on her throne of cushions. In many decks, she is very pregnant, although in the Rider-Waite-Smith, this is less obvious.

She offers us the ample pleasures, security, and the love of the Great Mother. She is Nature in all her glory. As Tarot expert Rachel Pollack so beautifully describes, she is not merely the forms of Nature, but the underlying principle of Life itself.

Beside her stands the great shield of Venus, for The Empress is an ambassador of beautiful Aphrodite. Her scepter echoes this symbol as well.

At her feet is a field of grain, for she is the Goddess who rules agriculture — Ceres, Ops, Demeter, Corn Mother, the Grain Goddess. Quite apropos for this period following the Summer Solstice, as we prepare for the fruit and grain harvest celebrations at Lughnasadh (Aug. 1).

Her necklace holds nine pearls, suggesting the nine planets of our Solar System. And her crown is a circlet of six-pointed stars, each representing the twelve signs of the zodiac.

This hexagram shape is familiar to many as the Star of David, and also recognized as the ancient Seal of Solomon. It is also the intertwining of two triangles, combining the magical, alchemical symbols for masculine Fire and feminine Water.

Magical Full Moon

Jessica Shepherd at discusses this powerful Full Moon:

It’s Cancer Sun season, a time of reconnecting to soul, family, past. In so doing we receive a mirror our deepest selves. Our mysterious patterns and vexing conditioning we often trace to our childhood or parents; our anger issues, our parents’ rocky marriage…but go back even further and you may find a relation from another century living an aspect of your life.

Patricia Walsh, in her fascinating article Pluto in Capricorn and Ancestral Spirits, says, “You are not an island, and you stand at the end of a very long lineage, that still lives within and around you through the spirits of your ancestors.”

The Moon is Full in Capricorn. Under the light of this Capricorn Full Moon, the ancestral threads are humming, reminding you that the starry tapestry that you are is intermingled with the swirling threads of others’ lives, and lifetimes.

Shamanic Pluto, that mysterious planet of hidden riches, is near this Full Moon. Like a crevice or crack in the side of a desert mountain suddenly revealed when the moonlight falls just so, what hidden treasure or resource is ready to be unearthed in your own psyche or life? With Jupiter conjunct Venus in royal, pedigreed Leo, the gift may be a generous one.

Into this juicy milieu, The Empress joins us, with her voluptuous, inexhaustible life-force.

The Great Mother

On a personal basis, The Empress often indicates a pregnancy and the importance of children in our lives. These children may be literally human, or they may be our creative expressions, projects, or ideas.

The Empress, as the Great Mother, offers unconditional love to all her children. She is the source of all abundance, beauty, health, and regeneration.

In perfect harmony with the Sun in Cancer, this is a time for nurturing, nesting, and building a secure, wholesome environment for you and your loved ones. Beauty, sensuousness, and earthly pleasures are the focus this week. And how might The Empress help you make better choices for a healthier life?

One World, One Family

With the blessings of The Empress, we are called to awaken from the poisonous spell of systematic, institutionalized impoverishment of mind, body, and spirit that has become commonplace in our era.

Re-prioritizing our needs, our material comforts, and our very lifestyles are at a critical juncture, and must be addressed by each one of us with a new dedication.

The Empress reminds us that all of us are her beloved children — every race, every nation, and also every living thing, of which humanity is only one species.

When we live in harmony with the divine wisdom of Mother Earth, sensuality and bountifulness are happy and normal. We are now fully engaged in the shift that will make this so.

This week, how can you discover new ways to embrace the beauty and splendor of the world around you? The Empress empowers your creativity with abundance and wholesome results.

Open the doors of your inexhaustible, invisible storehouse of Good! Recognize what “enoughness” is, and realize your own vast resources. In the spectrum of human existence, you are wealthy beyond measure.

Receive what is given with gratitude; share what you have with generosity and joy. We have and are so much more than we have been led to believe.

What a joy to read this today! I make a point of checking your card of the week each week, but this card is especially significant for me. In two days, I’ll be going in for my first ultrasound for my first pregnancy. I’ve been scared witless about it – this card brings a tiny sliver of calm to my thoughts!

Oh, and I’m also a Cancer (7/6). There could not be a more perfect card for me this week. Thank you as always for your insight!
