There’s a full moon risin’
Let’s go dancin’ in the light;
We know where the music’s playin’
Let’s go out and feel the night.
Because I’m still in love with you
I want to see you dance again.
Because I’m still in love with you,
On this harvest moon.
~ Neil Young, Harvest Moon
Come dancing on this most magical night and let healing and blessings flow!
This Full Moon is the third of three Super Moons this Summer. And not only is it a Super Moon, but, since the Sun is now in Virgo, the Full Moon, by definition, is in the opposite sign — mystical, Moon-loving Pisces.
At Cafe Astrology, Annie Heese and Adam Banks write —
The Virgo-Pisces polarity is the service axis, and it deals with the balance between day-to-day functions and routines, physical health, and the need for order (Virgo) and vision, spiritual health, disorder, and the infinite (Pisces).
Virgo rules our personal set of tools and techniques that we use to deal with day-to-day life, while Pisces rules our tools that we use to deal with our spirituality. The key to balance lies in identifying and expressing our spiritual needs, while maintaining order in our everyday lives. Neglecting either end of the axis will surely backfire–we would either be living in chaos or in excessive order.
The Full Moon is a time of culmination and the promise of fulfillment of that which was started at the New Moon. It is an emotional time–a time of romance, fertilization, and relationships.
Chiron the Healer
And to add even more oomph, this Full Moon’s energy is being amplified by an alignment with Chiron. No one can explain this better than my friend, renowned astrologer Lynn Hayes:
An opposition from the Sun to Chiron (wounding and healing) on September 7th can open a window on a wounded aspect of ourselves to illuminate the darkness and help us to release the pain. This process is not always comfortable: as I wrote earlier this month “Healing hurts, but not as much as not healing.”
When an old wound emerges we often want to escape from the discomfort that it brings, but if we can instead surround the feeling with light and welcome it into the present moment, it can become transformed and released.
This opening and healing energy is embedded in the chart of the Pisces Full Moon on September 8th when the Moon aligns with Chiron as it opposes the Sun.
The Moon represents our emotional heart and inner child, and as it aligns with Chiron these deep wounded feelings are much more likely to become more available as they emerge from the darkness of the subconscious.
The Full Moon itself represents a polarity between the conscious presence of the Sun and the secret instincts of the Moon, so expect this Full Moon to bring out those secrets which we hide even from ourselves…
Because this is a Pisces Full Moon, and Neptune is the modern ruler of Pisces, that Neptunian flow and creativity and divine inspiration is available in abundance right now. This is wonderful for artists, writers and lovers, but during this time just know that it may be somewhat difficult to keep your feet planted on the ground and try not to make any permanent decisions until after the 11th when the Sun moves into a harmonious sextile to Saturn (structure and grounding).

Rituals and Wisdom Traditions
Last but certainly not least, the wonderful Mooncircles website not only offers its beautiful 3-Minute Moon ritual, but they have also included a deeply evocative post from their archives, regarding the specific magic of the Harvest Moon:
“By returning to the earth itself for the basis of our festivals, we include all the manifestations of Being, wherever we live.”
It is the holy day of the Harvest Full Moon. Astrologically, the Moon is in the compassionate and selfless sign of Pisces while the Sun is in the sign of the Great Grain Goddess, Virgo. In just two weeks, the Sun will cross the equator, ushering in the Equinox when the days and nights are of equal length…
As always, my dear friends, I wish for you that your Moon rites may be sumptuously blessed. And as we arrive at this ancient marker of the year, may your holy harvests abundant and beautiful.
