Tarot Card of the Week – Feb. 20-26, 2012: Three of Wands

A vision is not just a picture of what could be;
it is an appeal to our better selves, a call to become something more.
~ Rosabeth Moss Kanter (American business speaker and consultant )

This magical week of the New Moon in Pisces, Losar (the Tibetan New Year), and the climax of Carnival, the Three of Wands brings its blessings.

In the numerology of the Tarot, Threes are the expansion cards, the creative growth that comes from the initiative of One combined with the duality of Two. The threes represent manifestation and synthesis. Of course, Wands are Fire: the qualities of creativity, action, growth and passion.

Arthur Waite described this card saying, “Here we see a calm, stately personage, with his back turned, looking from a cliff’s edge at the ships passing over the sea. Three staves are planted in the ground, and he leans slightly on one of them.”

The Three naturally follows the Two of Wands, which is the time of deciding. In the Three, the figure has launched his dreams and choices into real action. With a calm confidence, in the golden light, he waits for the arrival of the success he has earned, as the ships sail by below.

In the DruidCraft Tarot, authors Stephanie and Philip Carr-Gomm point out that in the times of the sailing ships, such commercial enterprises were a gigantic risk, incredibly expensive and an investment that could take years to realize – sometimes years without a single word of progress. Yet if their ships returned safely home, the owners stood to gain enormous wealth and power.

This week, be looking for results that are the culmination of your prior planning and foresight. And consider how plans made at this time will pay off for you later.  Are you willing to wait patiently for your desire? How might your passion and creativity contribute towards a better future?

On this week’s New Moon, we can plant powerful seeds of intention, for by the next New Moon, we will have celebrated the Equinox and the beginning of the astrological New Year.

All that is old truly comes to an end during this lunation, and we stand upon the threshold of the upsurge of life and renewal that Spring brings. This card urges us to look ahead.  What long-term action begun now might lead to a very desirable, even magical transformation?

Use this magical period to make plans now that will pay off for you later. What vision nurtures your better self? This is the time to see the big picture of your life, and lay the groundwork for a long-term, successful future.

What are you hoping to attract to yourself through your best energy and effort? With whom do you wish to share your passion, and to what course of action are you ready to commit?  What seeds do you make your wishes upon?  In what activities and endeavors shall you invest?

Use your creative visualization to name and know your deepest desires this week. If the vision is indeed your calling to become something better, you have the golden blessings of the Universe.

May your most brilliant desires return to you threefold.

We had a February snow yesterday, fast and furious it came, big fat wet flakes that knocked out the satellites (TV and internet) that we depend on here on Little Beaver Creek. Soon after, the power went out. It was still daylight, so we set to work, feeding cats, locating food and beverages for us, gathering extra blankets. My husband retrieved a camp heater from the shed and we were set. A respite, a calm. My brain went into overdrive, and I commenced to pondering where I am right now in my path, and where I want to be. I drifted off to sleep, and the dreams came. Visions, actually. Now I know more clearly what I am working to manifest in the coming days? weeks? months? The electricity was restored after about 7 hours. People speak of the calm before the storm. I had a calm in the midst of the storm, and a needed calm for me, an opportunity to be in a Three of Wands moment. I so needed the calm, the time of pondering. This card is so apropos for me this week.

How strange Beth: This morning I meditated on the 4 of wands card…Thanks for your insights.

To me it seems that this person passed through a gate (the first two wands) and is now touching the third wand (fire energy) to afirm his course of action.
After crossing the gate there is no way back.
He will board a ship and explore distant lands.

Oooo! Chills – this is profound, Arie! Love it!
