Blessings of the Libra New Moon

Dark of the Moon
What we envision
Will come to be by the Full Moon’s light.

We welcome the start of the most important lunation of the year.  This is the cycle that will move us through the ending and beginning that is the season of Samhain, the old Celtic New Year.  We stand at a crossroads of love, relationships, and balancing, with enormous potential for new beginnings.  What seed will you plant on this magical night?

My good friend, Lynn Hayes, has a very illuminating article on her blog today. In part, she explains to us,  “A New Moon occurs when the Sun and Moon align in the sky, beginning the next phase of the lunar cycle. There’s a clearing of the slate, and an opportunity to begin anew. The Libra New Moon on October 7th includes not only a conjunction of the Sun and Moon but also a conjunction of Mercury to Saturn, all in Libra.

“Libra is ruled by Venus, and Venus is quite powerful right now since it’s virtually stationary as it prepares to change direction to turn retrograde [tomorrow – B.]. With four planets in Libra, and Venus stationary, we are seeing the more powerful aspect of the Goddess of Love.

“I have always found it interesting that the truly ancient cultures (Babylonia, Sumeria, ancient India) have much more powerful representations of the Goddess of love and sexuality than the Venus of Roman patriarchal culture. Ishtar, Astarte, Ashtoreth, Innana – these were powerful ladies that instilled awe and even fear into the populace. Venus has become a bit of a cartoon character in some circles – the Playboy Bunny of the zodiac. But the instinct for love and attachment is one of the most primal archetypes in human experience, and it is this archetype that is at play in this New Moon.”

She continues, “Here we also have the approaching conjunction of Mercury to Saturn, stabilizing (Saturn) our thoughts and ideas (Mercury) and teaching (Saturn) ways to achieve greater cooperation (Libra) as we learn to bridge the gaps that keep us from truly understanding (Mercury) each other.

Venus presides over our values and attachments, and we may find ourselves questioning the things to which we have become attached over time during this retrograde period.”

Jeff Jawer at StarIQ agrees with this emphasis, noting, “The New Moon in gracious Libra gives relationships a fresh start. Putting more life into a current romance, initiating a business alliance or going public for the first time with a key project are all supported by this Sun-Moon conjunction. Libran charm, though, must be matched with intelligence, meticulous planning and clear communication as a conjunction of brainy Mercury and serious Saturn requires a well-defined strategy to make these new overtures successful.”

And astrologer Rhea Wolf offers additional wisdom.  “Libra is the sign of the scales and symbolizes our human desire for balance and just outcomes. Libra is sensitive to others, charming and social by nature. Use the power of this New Moon on October 7th to call in what you need to restore balance to your life.

“Libra,” she explains, “can help us create peace where there is discord and bring more beauty and grace into our world. Invite the power of Libra in to create a sense of luxury or to help smooth out difficult relationships. To tap into the New Moon power, you may want to take some time to journal or contemplate the issues that come up for you. Then you can create affirmations or a simple ritual to set the energy into motion.

“Here are some questions and topics related to the sign of Libra for you to consider for your New Moon Intentions:

“What gives you a sense of peace? Are there tendencies or roles you play in relationships that you would like to release? Co-dependency? Fear of commitment?

“Ask for help in the following areas:

  • Home or self beautification projects
  • Interpersonal conflicts you would like to resolve
  • Healing for kidneys or adrenal system
  • Seeing yourself and others accurately, without bias or projection
  • Freedom from indecision and mental exhaustion
  • Collaborating with others or extending yourself socially
  • Receiving and opening to more beauty, luxury and grace.”

May your seeds of grace, beauty and new relationships bring you nurturing and wisdom! Blessed be.
