New Beginnings on this New Virgo Moon

What we envision
Will come to be by the Full Moon’s light.

Wordless Wednesday is being preempted today, so we can begin our spell working. First, we start with a lovely piece by astrologer Pythia Peay, regarding this magical Virgo New Moon.

The meaning of life is not a fact to be discovered, but a choice that you make about the way you live.

Meditation on the Virgin Goddess
By Pythia Peay

As remote and antique a term as “the Virgin Goddess” may sound to our modern ears, the inner meaning of this archetype has a lot to teach us. An archetype of the Divine Feminine, the Virgin Goddess has been found in myths and religions since the beginning of time. She is the Egyptian Isis, “She Who Gave Birth to the Universe.”

She is the Roman Diana, “Lunar Virgin,” Goddess of the sacred grove and Mother of Animals. She is the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of Jesus, the Divine child. Virgo in Latin means “unmarried.” As the Jungian analyst Esther Harding has written, the title of Virgin Goddess did not imply physical virginity. Rather, its original meaning meant “one-in-herself.”

Thus the Virgin Goddess is not the feminine counterpart of a male God, or even His partner. Instead, She stands alone as a divinity in Her own right. For men and women, whether married or unmarried, the Virgin Goddess is that part of us that is single, whole, and complete.

She is who we are when we are born, and when we die. Attuning to that singular part of ourselves helps us to align with that one true thing that makes us essentially who we are. Reflecting on that archetype of devotion, purity, singleness, and single-mindedness helps us draw near to the goal our soul is seeking.

Using Virgo’s talent for discrimination, we are able to discern what really matters, from what doesn’t. Complexity gives way to simplicity of being and the ability to choose wisely.

How lovely, then, that this begins our meditation of gratitude, following the pathway of the “blessed beads.”

For we start this work today with a simple, deep breathing. We gather our focus, coming into our awareness. Setting our intention. We pull our many fleeting, distracting thoughts into a calm, quiet center.

We start by showing up.

One of my favorite teachers, Sage Goode, describes this as “coming home to ourselves.” She sometimes likens it to how we might walk through our home, tidying up: picking up the water glass we left in the living room, the socks under the sofa, the newspaper left by the bed, the wet towels lying on the floor. We pick up all the bits of our attention that might be wandering off thinking about a deadline later today; or a phone call we need to remember to make later; or that funny noise the car is making; or are we getting low on orange juice.

Breathing. Quieting. Gathering, focusing, bringing home to ourselves all our scattered pieces, so that we are fully present.

In stillness, in this dark Moonless moment, we prepare to have an intentional, fully present conversation of thanksgiving and praise with the Great Goddess.

And nothing else is needed. Nothing else matters.

Today, practice coming into your full attention. You are most welcome to share your thoughts as you consider why you want to be a part of this working, and what you bring to it. In the full, undivided attention of your own divinity, meeting with your own Beloved, who and what are you? What is your intention?

Dark of the Moon, we plant our seed tonight.

Beth, I really liked, and got a lot from this post. I hope you do more like it. Thank you.

(And the image you chose is absolutely beautiful…may I ask where you found it?)

Hi, Carey! Thanks for letting me know this (it got so quiet!!)..

I have no idea about where I originally found this beautiful image.. I have a huge file of art that I have collected over the years, but I am much more rigorous these days to try and attribute credit when I can.. I use a fantastic reverse image search tool called Tin Eye.

Although Tin Eye didn’t help me find the original or the artist for this image, it did help me find a much better copy than what I’d had! :-)

Thanks! I’ll check out tin eye. I’ll bet it got quiet because we were all doing and being….I know when I read your post yesterday I couldn’t write at the moment what I felt…I just had to sink into it. I found this working, and with this particular new moon to be quite a powerfully deep one.

BB and Love always,
Carey
